The 'Clyde', as it is affectionately known, was started around 1958 by a group of people from the Clyde Valley area of South Lanarkshire, whose children were interested in riding and competing with their ponies. Initially they would meet at various venues, usually a farmers field, to compete in jumping and games compettions. Venues were found from Hardington Mains Farm, Lamington, in the Biggar area to Rutherend Farm, Auldhouse which was almost at the other end of South Lanarkshire in East Kilbride.
